## What it is

Safe Screen Share is a Chromium browser extension that hides sensitive content on the page while your screen is in front of someone else: live video calls, recordings, tutorials, streams, screenshots, and DMs. Installation takes one click from the Chrome Web Store. Meeting Mode can activate protection when a supported call starts.

The product is built around the detail you forgot about: the inbox preview, the Stripe payout in another tab, the client name in autofill, or the API key in browser developer tools. Closing tabs, using dummy accounts, and blurring video in post-production cost time and break your flow. SmartBlur catches details that are easy to miss.

All blur detection and AI inference run 100% locally in your browser. Page content is never captured or uploaded for SmartBlur or AI Redact. Your blur rules and, if you use AI Redact, its downloaded detection model are stored locally in the browser. Both can be removed. ## How it works

**SmartBlur** auto-detects sensitive on-page tokens including:

- Emails, phone numbers, credit cards, SSNs, IBANs
- AWS access keys, Stripe keys, GitHub tokens, OpenAI keys
- JWTs, database connection strings
- Full sidebars and inboxes in Gmail, Slack, Notion, Linear

More than 50 sensitive formats in total. Detection runs locally and on demand, not continuously. SmartBlur detection is configurable per profile with presets (Balanced, Developer, Finance and identity, Maximum) or by picking categories directly.

**AI Redact** (new in 3.0) is the second detector. Where SmartBlur matches formats, AI Redact reads the visible text on the current page and finds sensitive details that have no fixed shape: personal names, street addresses, account and invoice references, and similar contextual PII. It downloads a detection model once, about 463 MB, and stores it in the browser. Scans run on demand and entirely on-device. The page text is never uploaded. Results are saved as blur rules. It is not continuous monitoring and it is not guaranteed to catch everything. Use it as a second pass for details that patterns cannot describe. The model can be deleted from Settings at any time.

**Meeting Mode** detects when Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams starts a call and protects the other tabs in that window using your blur profile, SmartBlur, or a full-page blur. It can also replace tab titles while you share. It can ask first or act automatically. When the call ends, Meeting Mode deactivates.

**Blur Profiles** are saved blur setups for different contexts, such as streaming, demos, client calls, and public tutorials. Switch between them with one click. The Pro tier includes 2 profiles. Unlimited includes unlimited profiles.

Saved blurs persist across reloads and SPA navigations, and work inside same-origin iframes and open shadow DOM. Version 3.0 rebuilt the storage layer so rapid edits are never lost, a failed save does not strand the changes that follow it, and blurs stay attached to the right route when an app changes the URL. Drawn areas now scale with the page instead of drifting. If a blur falls off on a specific site, support can add a rule.
